Synopsis

Raised on Philly soul, Daryl Hall and John Oates hit their stride in the mid-'70s, when they abandoned the misguided folkish direction of their early albums for a sound that accurately reflected their roots in mainstream pop and smooth R&B--"rock 'n' soul" as they accurately called it. A string of brilliant hits followed, from the gorgeous "Sara Smile" and "She's Gone" to the wicked, finger-pointing "Rich Girl" and "Maneater" to Top 40 manna such as "Kiss on My List," "Private Eyes," and "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)." At only 12 tracks, this best-of collection is a little skimpy, but it'll do until the inevitable Hall & Oates box set arrives. --Daniel Durchholz

Rock 'n Soul has to be one of the best single-disc greatest hits collections. There's no filler. Surprisingly "Say It Isn't So" and "Adult Education" were new songs when it was released. Typically I dislike when new songs are included in a hits compilation, but the additional songs actually became hits in this rare case.

Just got this cd and its awesome!!!

Loved this Blue Eyed Duo in the 80's and it still feels and sounds, just as good as it did then, as it does now to listen to these songs again.

I appreciate the format of these songs, as I had forgotten how many hits they had.

From Sarah Smile, to Maneater, to Say it Isn't so, each song has a flavor that is uniquely Hall and Oats.Definately a reminder of what great music was and should be.

If you don't already have this cd in your collection, definately one to invest in.

Hall & Oates greatest collection from the 70's and 80's!

"Chronicles their RCA studio recording session years from 1975-1982 in rock music history. On this cd there are a few of my favorite Daryl Hall & John Oates song classics i listen to like "Say Isn't So", "Maneater", "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)", "Private Eyes", "Rich Girl" and one live track cut version of "Wait For Me". This is the one it brings back a lot of memories so where were you back in the seventies or eighties when all these tunes came out and played on the radio? This is a definitive compilation album to own. Their music was pure harmony, soft beat, hard/pop and soul combined in every rhythm they perform as a musical duo!"

"Hall and Oates...they have such a knack for fusing pop/rock and soul so well....they dominated the early to mid 80's radio which is no surprise...they always sounded fresh and upbeat even in their more mellow songs too...its great to see theyre back via VH1 and Doing It For Love...if u havent a clue about Hall and Oates and interested in them and/or anything 80's, give this collection a try..."
