Synopsis

Album Description
"Pearl" hints at the traditional Appalachian music with which the artists were raised but covers varied musical territory, with nods to contemporary acoustic, pop, and folk. It features the artists themselves on guitars and clawhammer banjo, and they are helped by a host of America's best acoustic musicians, including Marcy Marxer, Ronnie and Ricky Simpkins, Chris Norman, Sally Van Meter, Ralph Gordon, and Bruce Molsky (who also produced the project).

CD Reviews

Brings me back to Appalachia
J. Fenger | Portland, OR United States | 07/17/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Truly a peaceful compilation that touches on the joys and pains of rural Appalachian life. I can almost see the rolling mountains, with a thin line of smoke rising up from the hollow below..."
Love the CD.

"I first heard them at a local Peacecraft fund raiser concert. Not only were they wonderful musicians, but also they were friendly and had fun with what they were doing! They played many songs (that I later found) on this CD, and also some from a CD that they will release something soon (maybe by Christmas!). Wonderful harmony, lovely voices, .. I think the first three songs are my favorite thus far."
Pearl is a real gem

"Zoe Speaks has recorded an excellent collection which will touch your soul. Verses speak to past memories everyone relates to. The accompanying instruments- banjo, guitar, fiddle, etc.- add to the music. Beautiful."
