Simply beautiful, pure, sacred, and deep music

"This is a beautiful sound, soft, silent, methodical, deep, sacred, profound. The rudra veena is a unique sound, very different from sitar, and the dhrupad style is very slow and apparently simple. Yet the deep resonant effect on the body and heart are noticeable, a most enjoyable musical experience."
Fine recitals from a master

"This is a fine recital by the late Z M Dagar, playing at the height of his considerable powers. The human voice has always been regarded as the pinnacle for rendering classical North Indian music but the North Indian Been or Rudra Veena was considered the second best until the 20th century. In the 20th century most musicians switched to sitar, sarod or occasionally Surbahar (for plucked instruments) so it was difficult to understand why the Rudra Veena was this highly regarded. When one listens to Z M Dagar, one can understand the former premium position occupied by this instrument.
Nevertheless, listeners who are familiar with sitar and sarod recitals might find his playing more serious and less flashy. But, in rendering the true character of the ragas he plays, he is unequalled."
