CD Reviews

A sensitive reading with excellent and balanced sonics!
D. Paper | Logan, UT | 09/19/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Similar to his Bruckner 9th release, this is a sensitive reading of this popular Bruckner symphony. I own many versions of this work, but I really like this one given its excellent and balanced sound. The best version in my opinion is the Carlo Maria Guilini (DG). This version has not been released on SACD and may not even be in print (I checked and there are no Brucker releases on Amazon for his Bruckner; what a shame). I have no idea why this wonderful conductor has such a small following. His Bruckner has no rivals in my opinion. Maybe this is just a decision from cold executives at DG and EMI? If you can acquire any Bruckner conducted by Guilini, buy, buy, buy and you won't be disappointed.

Anyway, back to this release. I have listened to this fine release at least half a dozen times and I want more! It is really that good. I like his Bruckner 9th release very much also but would go with this one 1st if I had to choose. Buy this one unless you prefer a more bombastic reading."
