Synopsis

Album Description
Flutist Mathieu Dufour and oboist Alex Klein -- current and former principal players of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra -- shine as soloists in a CD of neglected gems from the early Romantic era. Charming virtuosic showpieces by Mendelssohn contemporaries Wilhelm Bernhard Molique and Ignaz Moscheles astound with their fresh melodies -- and with the jaw-dropping technique and expressive range they elicit from the wind soloists. Opening the program is a jewel of the high Classical period: Domenico Cimarosa's beloved Concerto for Two Flutes (played on flute and oboe).

Talk About Great Flute/Oboe Duo

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is delightful and invigorating music to listen and enjoy.

It is light, yet sensual, and very refreshing. It is well played by current and former principal players of the Chicago Symphony.

These selections are from neglected yet virtuostic performances by contemporarys of Mendelssohn, i.e. Molique and Moscheles.

The starter is a wonderful duet concerto for two flutes, here played by Klein on the oboe as the second flute. There intonation, dynamics and phrasing is impressive, smooth and dynamic!

These brilliant, charming and refreshing to the ear early Romantic compositions will delight."
