"Italy's The Watch have never been shy in interviews of stating their admiration for Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. They aren't the only present-day prog band to do so, but they are also one of the few who actually manage to carry on the type of music that this line-up of Genesis was noted for without sounding contrived or obscure. There's even a bit of a nod to the WIND AND WUTHERING period of Phil Collins-era Genesis with the last song, "Soaring On," but for the most part, The Watch like telling stories the way Gabriel and company used to way back then. Most, like "When I Was A Tree" and "Sound of Sirens," are oblique enough that the lyrics sound interesting without really meaning much. "Berlin 1936" is, by contrast, a fairly straightforward account of American Olympic running champion Jesse Owens' stupendous win that year (though, uh, guys, the name of the town in Arizona is pronounced "TWO-sahn," not "TUCK-son.") The playing is tight and interesting, and, son-of-a-gun, vocalist Simone Rossetti really DOES sound a lot like Mr. Gabriel back in the day!

The upshot here is, yes, the early Genesis element is heavily felt here and, no, it's not a problem. This is a great album on it's own terms."
Once again, another great job of The Watch.

"Although still under influence by Genesis, this is one of the best Progrock work released in 2007. Great musicianship of all band members,(keyboard player and drummer, mainly),great production (superb sound of vintage keyboards)and the special voice of Simone Rossetti.

Now,is clear for me the evolution in compositions, findind the band their own musical ways.

If you like Progressive Rock (like me), PRIMITIVE is for you."
