Some hits, some misses...

"No sooner had I expressed interest in seeing another sequel to "Vivaldi Operas" than Naïve produces this new compilation. My only qualm is its duplicitous choice of arias from the original Vivaldi Operas, and Arias Per Basso albums. Should you not be familiar with the latter CD's, then this new album is refreshing and worth having. It is puzzling when a record label does not seem to know well its customer base. This aside, some arias are mellow and not particularly furiosas. Considering that Naïve has so much Vivaldi repertoire to draw from, providing its customers anything less than promised is inexcusable.

As for the instrumental pieces, the selection is ecclectic and worth wows. I am in total awe of the very dramatic bassoon concerto movements. Besides the composer, I must give a lot of credit to the players that actually make these instruments talk, argue, cry, fight, reconcile, and rapture in the end. These choice pieces are mind-blowing and represent Vivaldi's wild furious side!

A nice way to start the day

"I've never really loved Vivaldi, maybe it's because the Gloria and the Four Seasons have been comercialized to death. He also seems somewhat more insubstantial than other composers like Bach or Handel. I really dug this sampler however, it sounds modern, energetic and life affirming. I like to play it at work in the mornings to wake up. I'm definitely buying more Vivaldi editions from Naïve."
