Synopsis

Album Description
Born in Milan, Italy, in 1968, Vittorio Ghielmi won two major prizes in viola da gamba playing in 1995 and 1997. Since then he has performed in the most important concert halls of Europe and the U.S., and as a soloist with such orchestras as Il Giardino Armonico, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Ghielmi often collaborates in duo or chamber music with his brother Lorenzo, and with artists such as Gustav Leonhardt, Cecilia Bartoli, and Giuliano Carmignola. He is the founder of the ensemble Il Suonar Parlante, which plays both classical and jazz. Vittorio Ghielmi has recorded widely on the Auvidis, Decca, Teldec, Supraphon, Ars Musici, and Winter & Winter labels. He now teaches viola da gamba at the Luca Marenzio Conservatory in Brescia, Italy. This new album uses music to evoke the sensation of colors in works from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries. Dutch cellist and composer Ernst Reijseger plays his own compositions interwoven with improvisational parts.
