CD ReviewsA Great Tribute to a Great Man Peter Miller | LaGrange, GA | 11/17/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I've had this recording for over 20 years from an orginal Japanese LP then the CD. The Schubert is lyrical yet exciting as to be expected by Walter.
The Symphony No. 4 is the best one in my opinion by Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic. There are things I hear in this recording that I had to go back and look at the score to see. The flowing violin melody of the second movement near the end is an example of this. All is all it is well paced even if some think it is slow. It works for me and leaves me floating every time I listen to it. The songs are good as well. It is so rare that a concuctor gets to do this that its historical significance cannot be ignored." |
