Rock 'n' roll was yet to impact on popular music when Festival Records was set up in Sydney 1952. However, thanks to a group of enterprising Australians who saw a gap in the market, acquiring the rights to Bill Haley's 'Rock Around The Clock', Festival soon became a significant player in the popular music market, with both Australian and bought-in American rock 'n' roll.
