Synopsis

Product Description
Featuring fourteen new cuts from such Washington, DC luminaries as Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Arthur Loves Plastic, Jette-Ives, and Seroya, among others, The Underground Sound of DC is a "perfect blend of jazzy, housey tempos and vibes that constantly stays upbeat." From the masterful vocal syncopation and driving bass of Seroya's "Keep the Rut Out," to the spicy new remix of Thievery Corporation's "The Heart's a Lonely Hunter" featuring David Byrne, this continuously-mixed dance experience is an "unstoppable force" of the robust jazz, funk and international flavors for which DC is famous. All net proceeds from the sale of The Underground Sound of DC directly benefit the Whitman-Walker Clinic, the nation's oldest and largest HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment organization.

CD Reviews

A Hard-Groovin Experience
S. D. Gifford | Washington, DC USA | 11/27/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I just love this CD. I love the way each track blends into the next, creating one continuous groove. While I don't love every track on US-DC, mixed together, I get a real sense of what Washington DC is up to musically--which is unique and sounds very different than, say, Chicago or NYC.

Favorites:

1. "In the Presence of..." This remix really shows off Jette's voice and songwriting ability in a new format.

2. "Wing Tipped Shaker" Full of surprises in every measure: that Dex Dubious is a BEAST!

3. "Keep the Rut Out" Seroya becomes four times her size in this masterfully edited breakdown.

I especially love this CD when getting up on a grey day, or when going for a long drive, as the upbeat jazz and funk rhythms keep me going for the length of the disk. Way to go D.C.!!!"
