CD Reviews

A terrific album! Better than I expected!

"In all honesty, I can say that I am not a Shania Twain fan. She's a little too "belly button pop" for my taste. I bought this CD because it looked interesting; it showcased a wide variety of artists, and that appealed to me. While titling this CD "An All-Star Tribute" seems a tad ambitious (about half the artists are bonafide stars), the collection is filled with delightful takes on Twain's good, simple songs.

With that said, I am not sure how fans of Shania Twain will enjoy this CD, but as a music lover, I find it to be highly enjoyable. The music has some rock in it, but it's mostly country-flavored pop (Twain's music is not country; anyone who says differently doesn't know squat about musical genres and composition).

The collection's most accompished tracks are Lynn Anderson's sexy take on "I Won't Leave You Lonely," Juice Newton's blithe version of "Come On Over" and a no-nonsense "Honey, I'm Home" by Bonnie Bramlett. Falling short are Kacee ("You're Still The One") and Pearl Aday (a cookie-cutter version of "That Don't Impress Me Much"), but the tracks aren't terrible, so they don't detract too much from this set.

I find it odd that trailblazers like Wanda Jackson, Lynn Anderson and Juice Newton are paying tribute to Shania Twain. Twain should be paying tribute to them, since she is coasting along on a path that they helped create. Still, it's fun music. Twain fan or not, if you enjoy female country-pop, this is for you."
Liked It!

"This type of album concept style always worries me.

It seems like the originals are usually MUCH better than the "tributes". However I really found myself enjoying the varying styles of these singers. JUICE NEWTON sounds fantastic, and it's great to hear her again. I even liked some of the unknown vocalists like Kacee and Janelle Sandler.

The sound clips do NOT do this album justice! It's a good effort and if you're a country music fan you'll like it.
