Synopsis

Album Description
2010 marks a milestone for indie label, Rounder Records -- 40 years in the music industry. To celebrate, Rounder held an anniversary concert on October 12th, 2009 at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House which was filmed for a PBS television special that will begin airing on the network in March, 2010. Grammy® winning Rounder artists Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bela Fleck and Irma Thomas performed at this momentous celebration along with musical host, Minnie Driver, and special guests Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas and Jazz/R&B pianist, Henry Butler. Steve Martin's concert at The Ryman Auditorium the night before was also filmed and select performances from that show will be included in the Rounder 40th Anniversary companion CD to the PBS special. In addition, the song "Rich Woman" from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' 2008 CMT "Crossroads" will be included, as well as songs from Madeleine Peyroux's 2009 concert tour recorded in Los Angeles.

CD Reviews

Rounder Records 40th Aniv. Concert a real treat
Jim S. | Renton, WA | 05/20/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have enjoyed the variety of music on this CD since my first listen. I played it continuously during my commutes for 2 weeks. There is country, zydeco, blues, gospel, banjo, and lounge singing. I knew how good Allison Kraus and Mary Chapin Carpenter were and especially Allison shows it here. One of my favorite new songs is River is Waiting by Irma Thomas, who I had never heard of before. I have also enjoyed being introduced and listening to Minnie Driver, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, and Madeleine Peyroux."
