Disappointing CD

"Naturally, I'm a fan of the movie (& score). I'm not one that needs to buy anything related to "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (since I already own the DVD & soundtrack CD) - but thought this CD would be an interesting addition to our CD collection. The idea of a string quartet interpreting this score is actually pretty intriguing - the possibilities strong. When the CD started playing, I thought "This is okay - sort of fun"... but by the time the 2nd track was midway through, I already started regretting this purchase.



Here's why: The original soundtrack recording is full of passion - fun, yes - but still filled with passion. This String Tribute is not. There are no swells of passion anywhere on the CD. Each song plods along - same volume, same range of the scale - and all sounds like it's been produced on a MIDI keyboard... After 2 songs, the sound of this CD becomes annoying - definitely not what I was expecting it to be.



So, do I recommend the CD? No. Stick to the original soundtrack."

"The music is so full and fluid. I love the music from the "Nightmare Before Christmas" anyways, so this is a great alternative to the traditional version. Whether or not you are a fan of "Nightmare," it is music everyone can enjoy!"
