This CD is an excellent compilation of various celtic artists. From the "get up and dance a jig" sounds of William Jackson's "Corryvrecken" to the poignant blend of a joyful reel and the inate melancholy of the Irish in Alasdair Fraser's "The J.B. Reel/The Shepherdess", this quintessentially Celtic CD will bring you across the sea to the misty shores of the Emerald Isle. (and don't miss Maura O'Connell's perfectly mournful "The Water is Wide"!) The variety is pleasing, with some songs in the native Irish tongue and others in heavily accented English, which makes it all the more fun. This is a great compilation for both an intro to celtic music and for seasoned celtic lovers as well. Highly recommended!

Lovely Voices and Melodies
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is worth it just for Maura O'Connell's version of "The Water Is Wide". It makes my heart stop evertime I hear it. The other songs are also wonderful - complex and soothing."
Compilation of the best Celt
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Celtic music is a tradition that is just now beginning to sweep America, and a passion shared by millions. Obviously it would be impossible to include all of Celt's greatest songs on one compact disc, but if it had to be done, Thistle and Shamrock is it. This disc has everything from suspensful bagpipe concertos, to soothing fiddles and the sounds of "suil a ruin." I recommend this collection to ANYONE who appreciates Celtic music for the elite art that it is. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me."
