CD Reviews

For NOIR lovers who can't get enough......
John David Felter | New York (Ripper) | 05/02/2001

"Great score/dialogue disc for the hard-boiled NOIR buff who needs an occasional fix when not enjoying a NOIR film. Throw this on when you're hanging around the house, and enjoy selections from the overwrought scores to a number of classic NOIRs as well as choice samples of hard-boiled dialogue. I had hoped that better NOIRS would be featured,('DETOUR', 'D.O.A.','OUT OF THE PAST') but hey, maybe they'll be a part two."
Not bad but could've been much better

"Being a film noir fanatic I decided to buy this. Most of the themes on this cd are hard to find & the music is very good. As other reviewers have already pointed out, there is too much dialogue & not enough music. I'd have no problem with the dialogue if it was memorable lines but for the most part the dialogue is forgettable, except for Cody Jarret's (James Cagney) memorable "Made it Ma, top of the world" line from 1949's "White Heat". I loved the haunting music of "Laura" & "The Postman Always Rings Twice", but the music selections from each film are unfortunately brief on this cd. And shame on TCM for not including "Double Indemnity" (among others), one of the landmark films of the genre. Overall, I'd say this cd is enjoyable enough to buy if you're a film noir fanatic like me. Otherwise, I recommend waiting until a better collection of film noir themes is available."
