CD Reviews

Great London Elektricity Mix!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"With the release of their best of, Underworld has brought out some new mixes of their classic "Born Slippy Nuxx". The Japanese edition includes 5 mixes:- 2003 Edit (3:58)
- 12" Edit (7:01)
- Down Version (4:55)
- London Elektricity Mix (8:15)
- Paul Oakenfold Mix (8:11).The first three mixes are produced by Rick Smith himself. The 2003 Edit starts with an euphoric piano followed by the lyrics and the famous beat of the original version; the piano is the main novelty of this remix. Although the second mix is called 12" Edit, it is not edited but is the full extended remix. The Down Version is an ambient mix with the lyrics slowed down. The London Elektricity Mix is an amazing Drum and Bass remix, sure to be a big hit on the dancefloors. The remix by Paul Oakenfold and Ian Green has a heavy bassline typical of psytrance X-Dream's Radio. Around the middle, there is a break in which you can hear the beginning of the original version backed with a great breakbeat, leading to an excellent dark bassline in the vein of Markus Schulz. But strangely this bassline stops after a few seconds and is replaced by the heavier one. Several noises are added without direction and it looks like a headlong flight. I would recommend this cd for any fan of Underworld and Drum and Bass. Besides, while the UK release has only the 7" edit, the Paul Oakenfold Mix and another remix (because of market rules limiting cd-singles to 20 minutes), this Japanese release includes three full length exclusive cd tracks: 12" Edit, Down Version and the excellent London Elektricity Mix. And as usual top-notch Japanese quality production. A great buy!"
