Can you tell me where this music lies, said the Unifaun to h

"I'm obviously paraphrasing the opening line to the Genesis song "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight", which is where this new band obtained its name. Unifaun is actually just two talented Swedes by the names of Nad Sylvan and Bonamici, who are such fans of mid-1970's Genesis that they chose to make a 76-minute cd in that style.

GET. THIS. C. D. !

Yes, we've all heard the Genesis cover bands that astound us by replicating every note of every song. Or the clone bands that write original music in this style, and are very successful doing it (The Watch, Citizen Cain, Neuschwanstein, etc.). But I have NEVER heard - well, at least not in about 30 years - a true "missing Genesis" album that displays this combination of originality, great compositional skill and uncanny ability to pay tribute to the classic sound of mid-70's Genesis.

I want to play this cd all the time, and that is not like me at all - I usually play a cd and then look for the next thing that interests me. Sylvan's voice bears strong similitudes to both Gabriel and Collins, but more often like Collins. And the instrumentation (keyboards especially) sound just like the originals. So, this is "derivative music" to be sure, but very original songs and melodies (without resorting to the poppier 80's Genesis sound). Some of the chord changes and refrains just feel so right! Favorites for me so far are "To The Green Faerie", "Rehacksis", "Way Out" and "End-or-Fin". But there are NO clunkers here, fans.

This cd can't get my 5-star rating, simply because it is another clone band (which affects my "music quality" rating below). But Unifaun has quickly become a favorite in my collection the past few weeks. If you loved Genesis circa 1974 - 1977, do not hesitate to buy this.

I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:

Music quality = 8.8/10; Performance = 9/10; Production = 9/10; CD length = 10/10.

Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 9.0 ("4-1/2 stars")

Sounds just like a missing, classic Genesis album!

"Sylvan and Bonamici make no apologies for sounding like vintage Genesis. In fact, that was their intent all along, to pay tribute one of the greatest prog-rock bands of all time. Sylvan's vocals sounds like a cross between Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, which is kind of eery at times.

All the classic Genesis song writing elements are present, especially during "Quest for the Last Virtue" which features a Gabriel inspired spoken section and a Tony Banks inspired mellotron solo. "Rehacksis" is a great instrumental that sounds like it was left off "Wind and Wuthering" or "Trick of the Tale". Heck, even my Uncle, an old school Genesis fan, thought these were studio outtakes at first. That's how closely the song structures and execution mirror the classic 70's sound of Genesis. Add in the clean, modern sound production and you have a real winner.

As I said, Unifaun will not win any awards for originality. And yet, they are far more than a Genesis cover band. I'd recommend this to any fan of classic Gabriel / Hackett era Genesis. This is like a trip down memory lane with a new friend."
The Record Genesis never made......

"The previous and only review describes the title perfectly... bought the cd on his review and I am not disappointed at all. Voices mostly Phil Collins with a mix of Peter Gabriel when the moment requires it. Musically this is a brand new trip through at least 8 years of Genesis best creative sounds without imitating or copying anything or any composition of the original guys. These two guys from Sweden took 4 years to produce out a fun creative Tribute to the Genesis Band as a whole and at the same time it is all original material.... Excellent production.

Highly recommended to anyone that enjoyed Genesis from "Lamb lies down" to "And then they where Three". Singing sounds more Duke period.

Give it a try....
