Stunning stuff

"Maurice André is probably the greatest trumpeter ever to put lips to mouthpiece. His mastery of the wicked little piccolo trumpet, the smoothness and beauty of the tone, the rapid apparently effortless runs, are quite astonishing. This record brings together the two great trumpet concertos of the repertoire, the Haydn and the Hummel, along with some others. My favourite is the Hertel, the last movement of which is quite astoundingly spectacular. Perhaps not a record to listen through in one sitting, unless you're a trumpet fanatic - it's a bit like sitting through a banquet consisting entirely of your favourite ice cream - but certainly some great stuff here."
