""No Secrets" is Troy Reed's first full-length CD. From the first few bars I could tell he has been very heavily influenced by Yanni and John Tesh. This is a synth-driven album with a lot of piano work as well, and it's an impressive start. However, several passages are so close to some of Yanni's that I was dissatisfied. At 23, Reed is finding his own voice. He obviously has significant playing chops and compositional skills, so, hopefully, his future efforts will be more original. Don't get me wrong - this is a very enjoyable CD to listen to, but I kept having the feeling that I'd heard many passages before."Heart of a Champion" is dedicated to the victims of 9/11 and to the people of New York, which is noble. It sounds very much like an anthemic piece composed for the Olympics or something of similar grandeur, and is full of synth strings and powerful percussion. Actually, all eight tracks have a very big, orchestrated sound that occasionally gets a little overbearing - especially in the opening bars of "Prelude to Spring". Reed plays with passion and his goal of creating music to heal and soothe the soul is admirable. He promises that his next CD will be more piano-based, and maybe by simplifying his presentation somewhat, his own voice will become clearer."
