CD Reviews

Weak but not worthless
Graham Brown | FYSHWICK, ACT Australia | 09/23/2004

"After 3 straight out consistantly funky albums, Gettin It is the start of the steep downhill spiral of Short Dog. All hes post retirement releases since are complete crap, replacing funk for commercial spastic beats. However there are some awesome grooves on this album but I think you could cut it down to about 6 tracks. The first 3 hit the spot. The opener is a nice placid jam with a good melodic hook that saves it from becoming a bit to monotonous. Track 2 and 3 are typically groove orientated Ant Banks jams that are worth every cent. Track 4 stinks before the smooth **** my car. There are a couple of so so tracks till the albums end there after but in general your not missing to much if you switch the CD off after track 5. This release was a tired production and after hearing the absolute garbage after hes retirement, he should have stayed there"
Album "#10" maybe my least favorite of his

"16 months after his last album (my 2nd favorite of his) $hort is back with his last album before "retirement". Gladly he came out as of the 11 $hort albums I own this may be my least favorite and it be a shame if he retired after this. With 13 songs, none are near classic amterial, 1 I skip, 6 are ok and the rest are good, not great. Guests are on all but 3 songs, and $hort ain't even on 2 of them!! Production isn't near as funky as his early 1990's and 1980's stuff that made us all love him, but it is still decent, just not GREAT like his earlier releases. Shorty B does 5 songs, Colin Wolfe does 3, Ant Banks does 2 and Spearhead X, MC Breed and LA Dre all do 1 song. A good album for his fans to have but far from the man's best work.
