Possibly Tina's Strongest Album
C. Tolley | hampton, tn United States | 08/17/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Interstingly, this album was a much bigger hit overseas than here in the States. It went multipltinum overseas, while barely denting the Top 40 here. This shows that foreign fans can be more aware of true talent. This album really has very little weakness. The track "The Best", has become such a recognizable tune you tend to forget it came from this album. Two other tracks really stand out here for me: "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent For The Blues". The first is a return to her R&B roots with a really great blues guitar lick, and the latter a great blues tune given a great gritty reading by Ms Turner. The rest of the album is full of great tunes, and one wonders why the album never really caught on in the U.S. Anyway, this album has aged VERY well, and it sounds fresh and alive and full of energy. Not to say that Tina doesn't sing as hard or as well as she used to, but she really sells this album from down deep inside. Anybody else singing "The Best" sounds really silly. Get this album and be reintroduced to Tina again."
Top Notch

"This is one of Tina's best albums and my favorite from the 80's not that Private Dancer isn't great too. I never even knew this album existed until 2001, when I was trying to find out what album the original version of 'Simply the Best' was on. We'll I'm glad I found this. Another rarity that Amazon.com had."
The Best Tina Turner Album

(4 out of 5 stars)

"For all her prowess in the live arena Tina for some reason tends to be hit and miss with most of her albums. Private Dancer was a good album, but it didn't have a unified sound to it, Break Every Rule, in my humble opinion had too many sappy ballads (Girls is probably one of the most inane songs I've ever heard performed). Wildest Dreams was a few good singles and filler. But Foreign Affair tops them all. It opens you up with a bluesy rocker Steamy Windows, and it keeps you through the entire album. The album is an upbeat, bluesy record that is just so much fun to listen to. I love it. It's my favorite album. My favorite tracks are Steamy Windows, Look me In the Heart, Ask Me How I Feel, and Foreign Affair. I would include The Best, but I think her live rendentions of the song far outclass the recording. If you are new to Tina Turner, or only know her for What's Love...., get this album, you will not be disapointed. It combines many genres and is just simply a pleasure to listen to."
