CD Reviews

Fine collection of tim's early works
David Trombley | Brooklyn Park, Minnesota United States | 12/23/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Now...when you buy Abridged, remember you are getting a greatest hits type of release...but it's a great value for the money because due to the fact that tim's early works are hard to find...heck I had to get tim's untitled disc directly from him...but all the tracks within this disc are great in themselves. my personal favorite is still "on the green cays." listening to this cd re-affirms what we know already, that tim is an exceptional pianist and his music is deep and emotional..."
Definitely a solid selection

"This is certainly not a definitive sampling of Tim's early work, but it is quite good. Worth the purchase price all by itself is the previously unreleased tune "Drawn by Hand." I knew this had to be from the sessions of my favorite of his early albums, UNTITLED (and Tim did confirm that). Also from that album is my single favorite of Tim's pieces, "In This Small Spot."

Although there's not a bad track on here, I find myself wishing (as I do with all retrospective collections) that certain selections had been omitted in favor of other pieces. I won't mention specifics; it's all subjective anyhow. But certainly, this is a very good collection, even if I would have made different choices here and there.

In the oopsie department is the chuckle-eliciting typo "Her Lost Feet" instead of the correct "Her Lost Fleet."

To reviewer illyak2k, all I can say is: If you think all these pieces sound the same, then you're obviously not familiar with the concept of subtlety in music. Tim's a master of it."
Good

"Actually bought this for hubby for Christmas. I like it but not as well as he does."
