CD ReviewsGood recording by the Tim Berne Sextet Douglas T Martin | Alpharetta, GA USA | 02/06/2001 (3 out of 5 stars) "Tim Berne updates his quartet with two brass players and reworks some of the material from his Empire release "Songs and Rituals in Real Time". The material on "Ancestors" will be familiar to Berne fans: wailing dissonance, lightning fast soloing, soulful introspection, etc... A good recording but not an essential recording. The Empire Box set, anything by Bloodcount, or anything on JMT will have a little more kick to it.Tim Berne: alto; Clarence Herb Robertson: trumpet, pocket trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn; Ray Anderson: trombone, tuba; Mack Goldsbury: tenor, soprano; Ed Schuller: bass; Paul Motian: drums, percussion."
