Great small-group wind and brass performances

"The Chicago Pro Musica is a small group of (mainly) wind and brass players (mainly) from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. They are entirely wonderful in this diverse collection of mid-20th century classics. Weill's Threepenny Opera Suite will sound familiar to anyone who has heard Mack the Knife. Paul Bowles' Music for a Farce (not "Face") is a delightful discovery. Yes, this is Paul Bowles the late American novelist, author of The Sheltering Sky and longtime resident of Morocco. His music is generally spare and neoclassical, and he displays a droll wit in this piece. I highly recommend this recording."
