The Field Mouse Carnival EP was the first release by The Parson Red Heads on Yukon Records. The opening track My Heart is Bursting is a vocals, snaps and shakers only duet between lead singer Evan Way and his drummer wife Brette Marie Way that leads into the irresistible single Punctual As Usual from their full length King Giraffe. The other 3 tracks are stripped down California inspired acoustic pieces like the stomp and holler raucousness of Burning Up the Sky that has made it a live favorite. Different Sound is a simple love song at its finest - I think your heartbeat makes a different sound, I think the day breaks when you come around. Speed Trials (not an Elliot Smith cover, despite the title) is a 6-minute harmony rich closer. Field Mouse Carnival showcases the normally electric groups folkier, softer side.
