Synopsis

Album Description
Welcome to the Playlist series. We've fished through hundreds of tracks to cherry pick the perfect playlists. Not just the hits, but...the life-changing songs. The out-of-print tracks. The fan favorites everyone loves. The songs that make the artists who they are. You'll no doubt enjoy the sound of the beautifully remastered songs on this CD, unlike the compromised sound of an MP3 file. You might also like the fact that the packages are environmentally-friendly (no plastic, 100% recycled paper).
But we think the thing you'll appreciate most about this Playlist is that even though you didn't make it, you might wish you did. This package has been created with the environment in mind. All of the paperboard is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. Of course, we would prefer that you not throw this package or CD away. We would prefer that you keep it in your collection to enjoy for many years to come!
Full liner notes, photos, and more included as a PDF file on this CD. Enjoy!

CD Reviews

What a day for a daydream
Edgar Olivares | New York City, NY USA | 03/06/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"According to the liner notes printed in the enhanced portion of this album, the sound of The Lovin' Spoonful had been described as "good time music". Songs like "Do You Believe In Magic" and "Daydream" certainly fit that description perfectly.

Spanning 1965 through 1968, this great collection features seven Top Ten hits including "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice", the country flavored "Nashville Cats" and their only chart topper "Summer In The City". There are also four album cuts: "Blues In The Bottle", "Warm Baby", "Let The Boy Rock and Roll" and the mellow "Coconut Grove".

New and old fans alike will enjoy this collection. Good time music indeed.

The Sound Choice
The Aeolian | 02/20/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Fans of the music of the 1960s who are looking for a handy compilation of the music of the charming, albeit short-lived (long 'i'), group The Lovin' Spoonful need look no further than this offering from BMG Music. This CD covers the John Sebastian hits from 1965 - 1968, with a few album tracks and a bit of non-Sebastian material.

The main advantage of this 2008 release over other Spoonful compilations is the sound quality. Much of the original Spoonful production was as harsh-sounding as Motown, presumably to project from AM car radios of the era. This release cleans up the sound considerably. Darling Be Home Soon, one of Sebastian's finest achievements, has until this production sounded like it was a remote recording transmitted from the Moon. Now the beauty of the music really shines.

Four stars? There could have been more music: Younger Girl and Jug Band Music are inexplicably missing.

A fan can even overlook the flimsy "eco-friendly" packaging and the dull front artwork.

Comes with computer-accessed liner notes, booklet, etc. Let me know how they are (I can't bring 'em up on my Mac).

Buy it and be groovy."
