CD Reviews

Great Compilation from a Great Tenor
Gennaro | South America | 08/17/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the very first Flórez compilation from his previous Decca CDs. It contains some of his best and most popular recordings (Una Furtiva Lagrima, Ah! Mes amis, Granada, J'Ai Perdu Mon Euridice, Sí Reitrovarla Io Giuro) and his first release of Lacalle's `Amapola'. It also includes some not so known recordings from his early years (Se Di Regnar Sei Vago from Mozart's Mitridate and Verdi's Qui Tollis).

Although a number of other recordings deserved to be included but were left out (Such as Bellini's `A te o Cara' from I Puritani or Donizetti's `Anch'io provai le tenere' from Lucrezia Borgia) this selection entirely shows why Flórez is the most admired bel canto tenor of his generation!"
One of the great lyric tenors of our time
Michael J. Colbruno | Oakland, CA USA | 12/21/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Florez is one of the great lyric tenors of our time and this CD shows why. Like the great lyric tenors before him, Alfredo Kraus and Tito Schipa, he never pushes his voice and he sings intelligently and with passion. His voice is an acquired taste for some, but I like that he has a distinguishable sound. This CD is also a great introduction to people just getting into opera. Plenty of "greatest hits.""
