The orchestral suites contain some of the composer's most unfairly neglected music. Tchaikovsky, in fact, composed a number of sunny, relaxed, elegantly tuneful "abstract" pieces like these that show his superb orchestral craft in a much more amiable light than in the tensely dramatic symphonies that have made his reputation.
