Scott68 | Columbus, Ohio United States | 01/17/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Wow put Taneyev right alongside the Miakovsky violin concerto for some of the most original and overlooked music of all time: full of soaring melodies, dashing rythms, and plenty of dynamic contrasts in mood as played by David Oistrakh, the very voice of god. Some Oistrakh recordings sound too dated to enjoy, I consider 1954 to be the beginning of his best quality recordings and this was made in 56, (just two years after his unparalelled Brahms recording from 54 was made) so the man was in full prime at the time of this recording, playing his fonata strad.Since I am a big fan of the Miakovsky violin concerto, it was a treat to hear the cello concerto.My full 5 star recommendation goes out to this CD, it's rare so get if you still can, a must have especially for Oistrakh fans!"
