CD Reviews

A good sample of Tammy's best songs
Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 10/12/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This compilation includes the two songs that Tammy is best known for - Stand by your man (a UK number one pop hit) and D-I-V-O-R-C-E, another big UK pop hits, just missing the top ten. Even standing by her man didn't prevent Tammy going through four divorces. These songs are supported by a good but limited selection of her other songs from the late sixties and early seventies. Most of these songs were number one hits on the American country charts and the others came close. They include You and me (a happy song, unusual for Tammy), I don't wanna play house (which was a minor UK pop hit)If you only have a limited budget or you are unsure how much of Tammy's music you want, this may suit you. There is a sequel, Super hits 2, which contains more Tammy classics including most of the obvious omissions from this set. If you are considering buying both volumes of Super hits, you may be better to go for 20 greatest hits instead, which would be cheaper. That compilation contains 18 of the same 20 tracks, with Womanhood and One of a kind replacing Another lonely song and Woman to woman. Another excellent alternative is Anniversary 20 years of hits, which contains 21 tracks including some duets with George Jones."
I have learned so much from Tammy Wynette
garyallangirl22 | Graham, Washington | 06/26/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have learned so much from Tammy, just listening to her songs could teach any girl about being a woman. You learn more from her then you could from any man. Songs like "Stand By You're Man", "Woman to Woman" "Good Lovin (Makes it right)" and "I'll See Him Through" are all from a woman's percpective on relationships. And the really cool thing is, Tammy lived these songs, she was a normal woman who was so strong and ambitious and she sang about the things that she knew. It is a shame that she is not with us anymore, she was definaltley loved! She is my inspiration. This is a wonderful collection of songs by a wonderful woman!"
