CD Reviews

Oh this is the best!
Peter W . Veismanddel | Sweden | 11/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a cd, what a voice, what a band, oh this is the best! Janiva Magness is a powerful, yet sensitive blues singer. The band plays mostly jump blues, with the Magness' appealing vocals. Although you have to put up with an ok guest vocalist on several tracks, it's fine, because Janiva takes most of the vocals. This cd belongs in all jump blues cd collections. A fun cd by a versitile singer with a tight jumpin' band. BUY IT NOW."
Were is the Jump Blues ?

"As a rule I usually listen to a CD before I buy.Because this was recorded in 1997 there were no samples to be found. I read the above review and really got suckered in. The first tune really JUMPS and thats the end of that.I'm wondering if that guy was listening to the same CD.I even skipped thru the last 4 tracks hoping to find one more jump tune, not to be found. With Junior Watson & Kid Ramos on this disk it should have smoked from start to finish.I was ready for a real jumping good time and man what a let down.(Lesson learnt, alway listen before you buy, then read the reviews.)OK, with that said, why 4 star? Well this Lady can really sing and I love all styles of blues and listen to it.She does all the styles and does it well, but this CD is really on the layed back style and not something that would be in my JUMP Blues collection.I'm just glad that I didn't pay the $39.00 asking price that someone listed it for.If you love Janiva's voice, and you can find it for a reasonable price, add it to your collection, there's some solid blues here!"
