Berlioz Classic!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"My brother enticed me to enjoy classical music by playing Symphonie Fantastique enough times around me that one day I sat up and said "I like this!!" Now, I don't know every version of the classical music that I own, so I can't tell you if this particular recording is the best available. Just do a websearch on Berlioz, there is a whole society dedicated to keeping tabs on his music and concerts, etc. Basically Symphonie Fantastique is a haunting and provocative piece that simply brings hope and longing and despair and lights up your imagination just by its soundscapes. The fourth part "marche au supplice" is simply a masterpiece work of music that I think anyone anywhere could appreciate, but it is outdone by the conclusion, called Dream of a Witches Sabbath. At a pivotal point in the song a bell is rung which sets the pace and tone which the symphony plays off of, building and building to its conclusion. The sound is enourmous and grandiose. That bell awoke classical music in my brain, and this piece is an amazing work. This CD also has le carnival romain, another excellent composition by Berlioz. The second disc has Symphonies by Bizet and Chausson which are nice to have thrown in, but the highlight is definitely Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique. Don't miss out on this amazing piece of music!!"
