Philharmonic Splendor

"Just more evidence that the Philharmonia Orchestra is, taking the overall view of the last 60 years of recorded music, the finest orchestra ever assembled. (Other of their crown jewels include the Barbirolli Mahler 6th, the Furtwangler Tristan, and the Salonen Sacre du Printemps.) Definitely the best "Italian" I have ever heard; Klemperer makes it pull almost even with the "Scotch" in my estimation. Excellent Midsummer Night's Dream, too. Every detail of the scores is brought out and given its proper weight.

Highly recommended."
