"This 1965 recording of Bruckner's third symphony (1889 version), with Kurt Sanderling conducting Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, incarnates clearly one of the greatest performances of this work. Sanderling's grasp of this symphony is simply outstanding - like no one else, he completely understands the inner logic and dynamic structure of Bruckner's demanding score. The result is just deeply moving. In addition, the sound and playing is very fine too.



So this is the recording I play most often when I want to listen to one of Bruckner's greatest symphonic achievements (together with the fifth, eight, and ninth). For reference, one must consider such recordings as Jochum's (DG), Kubelik's (Audite) and Schuricht's (Preiser). But this recording would be my desert island Bruckner third. Strongly and warmly recommended.
