Harnoncourt's Fine Interpretations Of Mendelssohn's Scores

"Nikolaus Harnoncourt leads the Chamber Orchestra Of Europe in a pair of fine performances of Mendelssohn's 3rd and 4th symphonies. However, much to my amazement, these aren't as insightful as those I've heard from the likes of Blomstedt, Sinopoli, or even Gardiner. Instead, Harnoncourt's interpretations are suprisingly conventional. Yet I can still highly recommend this recording for the exquisite playing by the Chamber Orchestra Of Europe. Teldec's sound quality is as usual, quite exceptional."
