CD Reviews

The collection worth buying

"It's pricey, but this includes a second CD containing some of the greatest Suzanne Vega songs that were inexplicably missing from the "regular" Retrospective CD, as well as a DVD of 12 music videos. I'm content having her 6 original CD's, but if I were to buy a compilation, this would be my choice. Half of the "extra" CD consists of material I consider Ms. Vega's absolute best, and I'd feel cheated buying a retrospective lacking them. I think one could luxuriate in this collection."

"I bought the one disc best of and hated it because there was too much missing. This two disc has everything I'd ever want and need by Suzanne Vega... The only two albums of hers I have are 99.9 and 9 Objects of Desire. They are so different form her usual folk fare, but i had to have this best of for "Left of Center", "Marlene on the Wall", "Tom's Diner" and a few others. But I like the stuff I've never heard before.

Ms. Vega's voice IS an acquired taste; it's flat, but the right arrangements can make up for that... like Mitchell Froom's two production jobs on 99.9 and 9 Objects.

If you are new to Suzanne Vega, this is the best place to start... and maybe all the SV you'll ever need.

AND

My DVD plays! It IS an import but they made an NTSC version as well as PAL. I got lucky; I bought this for the cds, never planning to be able to watch the DVD, but I stuck it in my player, and son of a gun! videos!"
