CD Reviews

Smooth Warm and Breathless

"My Favorite CD in my Sting collection. Some songs I've never heard before plus breathless remakes of some long dead classics. After hearing an old classic like Frank Sinatra perform (bellow) one of these old songs on the radio, I had to turn off the radio and quickly hear Sting's warm and meaningful version. Thanks for putting life, subtley, and romance back into these. The rest of the songs on the CD are multi-level masterpieces. Good CD for those long cross state drives. Only one mediocre song on this whole CD (that "All For One" pop trite with Rod Stewart)."

"Nice compilation, 3½ stars. 4 stars if you don't already own much of Sting's discography. 4 ½ stars for NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD, because you may have a hard time finding PARTY PARTY's soundtrack on CD.

( I found it...shortly after buying this compilation )

Based on this compilation's theme, the overall interest is somewhat diluted because many songs have been used in their original form in the movies to which they are related, as they are here too: tracks 1,2,4,7,9,10,16 and 17. Great songs, but those have nearly nothing to do with Sting's TRUE contributions to movies soundtracks up until 1997 ( year of release of this compilation, yes, before KATE AND LEOPOLD and THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE )

At least some of STING's vocal and/or musical contributions to movie world are here, like NEED YOU LOVE SO BAD, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, DEMOLITION MAN, ANGEL EYES and MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE.

I would have gave this compilation 6 stars if SHAPE OF MY HEART had been preceded by Dominic Miller's guitar solo intro, as it can be heard in THE PROFESSIONAL's epilogue. No luck !

I'm afraid ( and glad ) that Sting's successful and prolific relationship with movie makers is a neverending story. In that respect, a 1997 compilation already seems outdated.

An updated «kind-of-At-the-movies...VOLUME 1!» compilation with only TRUE Sting's movie collaborations would be great.

I wouldn't mind to wait until May 2005, after the release of the movie ASHURA.

A very good companion to the Best of Sting and The Police

"Listening to the tracks makes one reminisce the movies. Most of the songs contained in this album were lifted from the movie soundtracks, like "Demolition Man" starring Sylvester Stallone. It also included Sting's soulful rendition of "Someone to Watch Over Me" during the Academy Awards. If only Sting included his songs from his past movies it would truly be a complete collection."
