"Steve Lacy has been performing the music of Thelonius Monk since the mid 1950's when he co-led a Monk tribute band with trombonist Roswell Rudd. Here he is found playing Monk's obscurities alongside more familiar tunes such as Misterioso, Evidence, and Pannonica. It is a pleasure to hear Lacy in a solo context where he is free to take whichever direction he chooses without the interference of a rhythm section. I find him to be among the most interesting solo saxophone performers on today's improvided music scene."
