"This conglomerate of songs reflects Steve Goodman's ability to record all kinds of music. It also shows his great writing talents. The highlight of the album is "The Dutchman" which is a very poignant song that was Steve's father's very favorite. Steve sang only this song at his father's funeral. "The Loving Of The Game" is a song that stuck in my mind for a long time."The Ballad of Penny Evans" is still covered by many current artists, and, I believe, was most influential for "Behind The Barricades" by David Rovics. The rest of the album is made up of clever and silly songs that evoke the genius of Steve's writing skills. The album was issued in 1972. Steve's aura as an entertainer is reflected on this album by those who accompanied him on the included thirteen songs. These included such notables as Jimmy Buffet, John Prine, and Bob Landy, better known as Bob Dylan. The album itself did not sell well and kept Steve from recording another album for two more years. It wasn't until Steve moved to Electra/Asylum that his next album was released."
