Synopsis

Album Description
Steve Earle?s solo performance at the 2005 Montreux Festival is a charismatic triumph. Armed with just an acoustic guitar and a harmonica, he performs tracks from across his career, with an emphasis on his later output but also going right back to songs from his breakthrough album "Copperhead Road" from 1988. The songs are performed with his characteristic combination of honesty, outspoken views and self-deprecating humor.

CD Reviews

Excellent solo acoustic versions of Classic Steve Earle
BlueCross Boss | FLA | 07/14/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This reminds me of the show I saw in Newport Folk Fest in 2004 or was it 2003? Anyway, I was blown away by the Newport show and to see Steve unplugged. Only thing better than this would be to have the DVD of he and Lucinda Williams at the Folk Fest that year. This one is essential for Steve Earle fans. If you are new to Steve Earle there is a great double CD of his greatest hits out already. Otherwise pick through his many studio releases before buying this one."
Steve Earle Stripped Back and Real
Live to Drive | NZ | 02/23/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD captures Steve Earles performance at Montreux solo playing just guitar or mandolin. A powerful performance and in between songs he lets the audience know how he feels about the state of the world and America in particular from a fairly unbiased view point. He talks about what his inspiration is behind a lot of songs and gives a meaningful and real performance. This is a must have for anyone who likes good music."
Subliminal performance
Dacrowster | Belgium | 03/13/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is one beautiful taped gig by THE man himself.

Subliminal footage and audio capturing,I give it only 4 stars beacause I don't like the version of The Devil's Right Hand he plays here, although he plays it mostly like this live.

The audio CD, Steve Earle With Friends contains in my opinion the best version and got me hooked on to the genious songwriter.

Enjoy!"
