Synopsis

Product Description
Crooked Path is the stunning debut from Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs. Featuring an early incarnation of the band with Corey Dosch on lead guitar and Orville Johnson on lap steel and banjo, the sound is quite different from what you may expect from this group, but the songs and singular voice are pure Star Anna. Up tempo crowd pleasers like Devil Don't Remember My Name, Space Beneath The Door, and the title track sit well with the sublime Five Minutes to Midnight, Wait, and the band's first single If Wishes Were Horses (the video for which is currently making the rounds on CMT's Pure Country). Also of note is the second track, Black Cat Blues, featuring the great Wayne Horvitz on the Hammond organ.

Star Anna: Ellensburg High Lonesome Heartbreak
Finario | Seattle, WA | 04/06/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Star Anna's Crooked Path touched me much the same way that Lucinda William's Car Wheel on A Gravel Road did ten years ago. SA's small town roots in the colorless flatlands of Eastern Washigton ache in her songs of the conflicted pull of being between the things she longs for and the things she's seen. There seems to be far too much heartache in her voice for someone so young; her songs of longing for youthful flight and escape, "If Wishes Were Horses" thematicly conjures up Bruce Springsteen's Thunder Road, far removed from the dusty beach roads of the the Jersey Shore. In a voice that is cautious, weary yet hopeful, she informs us that "it takes a long long time...to get it right." She pays faithful homage to Tom Petty, lifting a familar riff, in "Space Beneath the Door"; not far removed from Lucinda William's "Changed The Locks" which Petty recorded in 90's. Like Lucinda's CWOAGR, Star Anna's debut album tells stories of longing and love's indifference. Seattle and the state of Washington have gifted Americana and Alt Counthry enthusiasts with a calvalcade of stuning female voices of impassioned singer songwriters; Neko Case, Jesse Sykes, Brandi Carlisle and now Star Anna. She's a keeper."
You'll love it more and more!

"I bought Star Anna's CD at her CD debut in Seattle. Of course I listened to it right away because I was blown away by her performance! I had seen her before and noticed how she is getting more and more powerful as a singer. And her songs! Incredible! The whole band is a remarkable mix!

However, aside from how much I love to listen to her music and we do, alot, in the car as we drive about town and such. But my granddaughter, Emma, who is 3 years old, will not let us listen to anything but Star Anna! She gets quite upset when we try to put anything on just for a change! She says "Horses to horses"! (That's what she calls the first song.) Seriously she sometimes screams at us, my daughter and me, until we put it on! Then she starts rocking her head and sings it! She has since learned the words to the other songs on the CD. And let me tell you the more I hear this CD, and I do lots thanks to Emma, the more I fall in love with it!

I have given copies to friends as gifts and once I got a ride from one of them and he had it on his car player! Ha! It's a gem!"
Simply Amazing!!
