CD Reviews

Classic Aussie rock.........

"Long awaited for this 'best of' is right ! The band has been around a long time and still play in Sydney, Australia and continue to have a phenomenal following in Brazil. The CD packs a punch and classic favorites such as Don't Tear it Down, and Injustice still hungrily hold their own in this day of synthetic dance preferences. Suprises include the earlier tracks of Limbo, That Dead Girl and Sofa which were only available previously on vinyl, and these were very rare at best. Always putting out such a huge sound when playing live, has always allowed the band to put down hard and fast moving studio recordings. From the pulsing power of Craig Bloxom on bass with his distinctive vocal ability, the magic of Mike Weiley's guitar and the straight up and down, hard hitting drumming of Cliff Grigg, the boys are an Aussie pub favorite from early 80's. Mugshot delivers some of the sounds 'the Spies' produced over their career and tracks like Soldiers and Injustice still strongly carry their political message intended. If not familiar with this band, it is worth a listen if looking for a band who has done it all, from playing outdoor music festivals, to human rights concerts and environmental protests. The classic track Mugshot is an apt title for the CD and transports you back to the days of classic Aussie rock in a crowd packed bar........"

"If you love Midnight Oil, then Spy V Spy will fit the bill. A favourite support act in the early to mid 1980's, they had and still have, a huge loyal following. It's a pity that the other albums are not available, however this 'best of' fits the bill. The previous review I think is spot on."
