CD Reviews

Two great songs and interesting bonus tracks

"I agree with "beetls4evr" and his review but I would also add the track "Images" to the reasons to get this disc (along with the classic "Anna") IF you're a fan of the Spongetones or power pop music with strong Fab Four influences. "Images" is a very pretty but sort of sad-sounding song, with a echo-laden lead vocal spatially panned to give a psychedelic flavor that adds to the overall mood of the song. This album was the band's attempt to pull away from their "Beat and Torn" Mersey-beat sound and, consequently, the overall album suffered with less interesting songs being the result. Other than the two songs I mentioned above, you get the feeling while listening to this album that the guys were floundering- searching for a direction to go. However, there are a few other things thrown in the package that will be a definite attraction to fans like myself: two previously unreleased bonus tracks and three live, unplugged performances they performed on a radio program that are fun to listen to. Despite the shortcomings, I would still recommend you get this one if you are a Spongetones fan or power pop collector, as it probably won't be around forever."
Necessary if only for one song!

"I will purchase a CD for only one song if I like it enough, and this disc is such a case. 'Anna' is definitely one of their best songs, and a must-have in my pop collection. However, I found that the rest of the album didn't have any other standout tunes. If you want to sample classic Spongetones check out their first CD, 'Beat and Torn', a cleverly titled compilation of their first album and EP. This is pop (power or otherwise) at its best. You won't be disappointed!"
