Opera Soaring Over Techno!
Clarissa | Ontario, California | 08/14/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm really digging this CD and its foreign concept. I'm sure that this has been done many times before but, being a huge techno fan, I've never heard anything quite like it. I first heard Spente le Stelle playing overhead while rummaging through Best Buy, its unique diversity grabbing and then catching me in a taut daze as I frantically searched for it. So when found I immediately bought it, the tune haunting me for days on end. I was forced to listen to it over and over again! Caution: It's highly addicting. I've had this CD for many months now and still haven't tired of it, which is an astonishing feit for a person who goes through music like me. I think opera and techno go beautiful together. Emma Shapplin's confident soprano vocals range to mystifying heights, taking you on a journey you'll never forget. I suggest that if you're considering buying this that you do. I mean, opera soaring over techno? It can't get any better than that."
Very nice

""Spente" is a great dance tune. It's nice to hear the unique sound of Opera mixed with techno-dance. If you a fan of dance music, this is one single not to miss! :)"
Techno-classical exists, so there's little wrong with this

"Granted I haven't yet checked into Emma Shapplin's "Carmine Meo" CD. I came upon this single at the HMV on Times Square like a month ago and bought it immediately unawares what versions it had. I had downloaded some of the remixes of "Spente Le Stelle" on (...) long before, and having just recently been interested in Madame Emma I figured getting this would be a good start as it was my first Emma Shapplin purchase of any kind. In fact, the Yomanda remix of "Spente" was the VERY FIRST Emma song I ever heard. I showed little affection for it at first but then got used to it after a while. I like dance remixes unless they don't do justice to a song, so why not? Odji De C's take on the selection "Cuor Senza Sangue" is here performed by Chiara Zeffirelli, and it's equally as invigorating as the Yomanda take on "Spente Le Stelle." The one thing I lament, though, is the absence of the Yomanda Main Vocal Mix which lasts almost 8 minutes, but you CAN download that version on .... Even so, I don't find anything wrong with techno meets classical, as it's happened before. I just can't wait to hear more remixes from Madame Emma! :)"
