Synopsis

Paula Robison plays a modern flute, but she is still one of the great Baroque stylists. In this excellent set, Robison plays Bach's music with an impeccable sense of style that extends even to convincing embellishments in repeated sections. Kenneth Cooper, an expert on embellishments, may well have helped her with this, and he does some of the same work with his own part. Despite the inherent imbalance between modern flute and harpsichord, everything you want to hear is consistently audible throughout this set, which is probably the finest representation of this music on the market today. It still sounds very good, too. --Leslie Gerber
