CD Reviews

Phenomenal!

"This album is deserving of serious attention. Rarely will you find the combination of Skip's beautiful voice, outstanding lyrical content in absolutely EVERY selection, production that is second to none, and the "staying power" of the songs Skip chose to include on this album. All of the musical hooks are there. This is a "keeper" and will always be in my library. You got a good scald on this one Skip!"

"In May of '97 Skip Ewing's fans were treated to "Until I Found You", a mix of the best Skip songs hand picked by the artist himself for the new album. The variety in "Until I Found You" is impressive. A lot of people wouldn't realize Skip could cover the stylistic range he does. The first single, "Mary Go 'Round", is one of the greatest story songs of all time. My favorite compositions are "Sliver Of The Moon", "Answer To My Prayer", and "I Got A Job To Do" because they don't suffer from the over-production the other songs do. Several seem too "in-your-face" to me, primarily "Make Time", which doesn't need to be so loud. "Some Fools" seems like an attempt to show that Skip really can do hardcore country music (which he's done in the past), and while it is a good song, it doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs on the CD. I think "Half-Life Of A Heart" is a fine song to summarize the longing and hopelessness found in other Skip recordings, but as the only real "downer" on this glaringly positive album, it sticks out just as "Some Fools" does. Skip had a lot of fun writing the songs for this CD, as shown on "The Hole" and "All That Matters To Me" as well as my 3 favorites. I'd love to give Skip a guitar and a piano, put him in a room with a handful of really great new songs, and let him produce his own work by himself. He's been a co-producer and in fact co-writes most of his songs rather than writing them on his own (with a few important exceptions, including many of his best), so I just want to see what he'd do if given the opportunity to play by himself."

"SKIP EWING IS AN OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINER AND ONE OF THE GREAT SONG WRITERS OF OUR TIME. A TALLENT LIKE HIS SHOULD NOT BE OVERLOOKED IN THE FUTURE AS IN THE PAST."
