Their previous releases, The Crayon Club ('94) and a split 12" with Maxamillion Colby ('95) set the standard with powerful, driving music and passionate, emotional screamed vocals. These releases are truly beautiful. With Mouse-Ear Forget Me Not ('96), Shotmaker comes back with a much more mature work. Instead of blazing, intense music, there's much more toning down, much more musical effects, and an attempt to work the lyrics into and around the music. Instead of beautiful lyrics about battling satellite screens and societies invisible cages, there are beautiful lyrics about growing up. Though Shotmaker cannot quite live up to the marks set by their previous albums on Mouse-Ear Forget Me Not, it is still a beautiful and intense album despite its changes.
