Best Single Version of Shostakovich 12th With Mravinsky

"I didn't know Erato still had this in print. At the time of this review there is only one of these in stock. If you are at all interested don't hestitate.

Mravinsky's recordings are all live and have audience noise such as ruffling and coughing. But the performances are out of this world. The older Mravinsky got the slower his pace got, but the better the recordings sounded. This is the last of his recordings of the 12th symphony. So indeed it is a rare recording in that sense.

This release has no filler and is at mid-price and what you get is one of Shostakovich's most propagandistic symphonies, but played with passion. It is all irony. All the more ironic that there is only one left (for now)."
