The Shostakovitch is direct, sensitive and thrilling. There is great drive in the first movement, the slow movement has never sounded better, from both orchestra and soloist, and the last movement has great dash.
The Bartok is refined and dramatic. Orchestra and piano are both fine and the beauty of the work comes over well. The sonata in thrilling and immediate, with superb percussion from the best players of their day. This is a must buy at this price and a fitting tribute to the musicianship of this great man." |
